Sharing the adventure of buying a home…

“Progress comes from the intelligent use of experience.”

Before you get started looking for your dream home, here are some things to think about:

  1. Evaluate your priorities, timeline and circumstances. Do you have a home to sell? Are you prepared to pre-qualify with a lender? Do you want to be settled in your new home by a certain date?

  2. Before you begin looking for a new home, determine what is affordable. Loan pre-approval is also helpful and should begin immediately.

  3. What did you like most about your previous home buying experience? What did you like least?

  4. If you have never purchased a home before, do you have any expectations that you would like to discuss with a realtor before the process begins?

  5. When it’s time to select a sales relationship that can best serve your needs, ask the realtor(s) you’re considering to describe their business approach in writing or through a personal presentation.

  6. What are the features you will value most in your future home (i.e., good schools, quality of neighborhood, square footage, fenced yard, bonus rooms, proximity to work, etc.)? The buyers and their realtor should consider discussing why these features are important. Taking notes is always a good idea for later evaluation.

  7. If a seller or their agent is present while viewing a property, it’s always wise to keep communication with them to a minimum.
